Sailor Moon Blu-ray/DVD Set 1 Limited Edition

Usagi Meets Mamoru

Usagi Tsukino played by Stephanie Sheh; Mamoru Chiba played by Robbie Daymond

I’m already missing the Sailor Moon Crystal version of Usagi and Mamo-chan’s meet-cutes. But… “purple-pleated pants” may be my new favourite dub line ;-)

The box set can be preordered RIGHT NOW from RightStuf. While supplies last, customers who order from RightStuf will also receive an exclusive 1.5″ goldtone coin featuring Sailor Moon’s first transformation brooch and transformation phrase.

The set contains episodes 1-23 plus an 88-page, full-color premium booklet, all housed in a shimmering chipboard artbox. Special Features include Dub Recording Behind the Scenes, Art Galleries, Convention Featurettes (Extended Version). Spoken Languages: English, Japanese, English subtitles. Total running time 510 minutes.

I’m glad they’re releasing this in half-season chunks, making it a lot easier on the old wallet. This is going to look so great lined up on my shelf. It’s going to take a while to get into the new voice actors, but it’ll happen. Excited!!

“Sailor Moon Crystal” Theme Song Single

The official trailer for Sailor Moon Crystal was released a week ago (Japanese version). In addition to hearing the new voice actress for Luna and seeing the new character designs in action, we got to hear a clip from the new opening theme!

The new theme song is titled “Moon Pride” and the ending theme is “Moon Rainbow”. Both are performed by Momoiro Clover Z. The ending theme was composed by Akiko Kosaka, who composed the enormously popular “Tuxedo Mirage”, “Moon Revenge” and “Sailor Team’s Theme” from the original anime, as well as many songs and background music for the musicals.

According to the Sailor Moon Official Site, the theme single will be released on July 30, 2014 in two versions. The “Momoclo Version” includes the opening and opening theme and a Momoiro Clover Z cover of Moon Revenge (!) and their instrumental versions. The “Sailor Moon Version” includes only the opening and ending themes but comes with a bonus blu-ray with a music video of the opening theme featuring animation from Sailor Moon Crystal. So you can get the Moon Revenge track or the music video, but not both.

Sailor Moon the 20th Anniversary Memorial Tribute

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon the 20th Anniversary Memorial Tribute is a 10-track album featuring cover versions of the iconic Sailor Moon themes performed by currently popular J-Pop artists. The original CD can be purchased from CD Japan for $28.00 USD. You could also purchase the digital version from Amazon Japan for the local price of 2500 yen, but that would be crazy!

The CD went on sale on Jan 29, 2014 and the MP3 album went on sale March 5, 2014.

King Records has put out a pretty terrific promo ad for this album which gives a nice sampling of each song. You can also listen to samples on CD Japan. I’m really liking some of these tracks. So many memories! The inclusion of a male vocalist on Ai no Senshi is inspired, I love it! What do you think — can you resist hearing the old favourites with a new twist?

But wait, there’s more!

There will be a special limited edition 7-inch vinyl record version released on June 25, 2014. Five 7-inch vinyl records each featuring 2 songs will be released for 1500 yen each, or 8100 yen for the box set, will be released exclusively through HMV Japan, Lawson (a convenience store franchise chain in Japan), and Ministop store Loppi, according to the Sailor Moon Official Site.

Only Japanese music publishers could dream of such a glorious cash grab.

There is a “Sailor Moon the 20th Anniversary Memorial Tribute” special site with comments from each artist and the song’s arranger. All in Japanese, of course, but looks very lovely.
