Studio Library BGM: Rare Unavailable Music

Some Sailor Moon background music was never released on any CDs and has no known name. These are pieces of music I have no way of providing you. This page describes the most commonly known BGM that cannot be downloaded unless someone has ripped them directly from the TV episode.

Studio Library is a description given to pieces of music "lifted" from other sources to be used in anime series (or movies) and which usually can't be included on the anime soundtracks for copyright reasons. It's something the "studio" had in their "library" of sounds and music, and when they created that episode, they browsed thru and decided that a certain piece of music fit the scene. Many of the Studio Library cues used in Sailor Moon are taken from classical compositions. The Memorial Music Box comes with a booklet that lists, among other things, every episode from Sailor Moon (and the movies) along with the musical cues that appear in each episode. Those musical cues which are not part of the canon of music composed specifically for the series, and therefore not included on the Music Box discs, are noted in the booklet simply as "library" in katakana. If there is a particular piece of BGM that you have not been able to locate on any of the soundtracks on this site, and is only used once or infrequently, it's probably a Studio Library cue.

Thanks to the efforts of the SailorMusic.net forum members, a fairly comprehensive listing of these Studio Library cues is available. Corrections or additions to information on this page are welcome: michelle@-spambots-begone-michellebacon.net.

List of Studio Library Music

A member of the SailorMusic.net Forums has made audio captures of the Studio Library cues from all five seasons: RattleMan's Sailormoon Cues. These clips are taken directly from the DVDs and contain dialogue. If the piece of music you're looking for is among these (they are listed sorted by episode number and include a brief description), then that music is not available on any CD.

If you are encounter difficulty playing these files using Windows Media Player, you may need to install the Fraunhofer MP3 Codec (search for "l3codecx.exe" in your favorite web search engine). Or use Winamp, which has all the codecs and is guaranteed to play any MP3.
